To make merit = ทำบุญ
To give food to the monks = ตักบาตร
ตัวอย่าง:
We can also see all kinds of people are willing to make merit which is to give alms, giving food to monks and novices.
เราสามารถเห็นคนโดยทั่วไปยินดีที่จะทำบุญโดยการตักบาตรอาหารหรือสิ่งของอื่น ๆแก่พระสงฆ์และสามเณร
To pay respect to Buddha = ไหว้พระ
ตัวอย่าง:
During Songkran festival Thai people will pay respect to Buddha images, clean their houses, sprinkle small amounts of water on their parents to honor them.
ในช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์คนไทยจะไปไหว้พระ, ทำความสะอาดบ้านเรือนของตน, และรดน้ำบิดามารดาเพื่อเป็นการแสดงความเคารพนับถือ
Incense sticks = ธูป

He was a programmer for 5 years until he was 29 years of age at which time he decided to be ordained as a monk. เขาเป็นโปรแกรมเมอร์มาห้าปีจนกระทั่งอายุ 29 ปีซึ่งเป็นเวลาที่เขาตัดสินใจที่จะบวชพระ
ถ้าหากคุณต้องการบอกชาวต่างว่าสิ่งได้ไม่ควรกระทำในวัดคุณอาจจะใช้ประโยคดังต่อไปนี้ได้ครับ
"Women cannot to touch monks."
"You cannot to wear shorts in the temple."
แต่พวกชาวต่างชาติเขาคงเกิดคำถามในใจว่าทำไมเขาถึงทำไม่ได้ ดังนั้นถ้าหากคุณต้องการบอกกับชาวต่างชาติว่าสิ่งใดที่พวกเขาทำได้หรือทำไม่ได้เนื่องจากมันเป็นมารยาทหรือธรรมเนียม แทนที่จะใช้ "can/cannot + V1" ก็ใช้ใช้ " to be (not) allowed to + V1" แทนครับ ยกตัวอย่างเช่น:
"Women aren't allowed to touch monks."
"You aren't allowed to wear shorts in the temple."
